Canceled Marvel MMOs pay tribute to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

In case you somehow missed it, publisher Enad Global 7 recently announced that the Marvel MMO that was in development by Daybreak Games has been renamed. The project was first officially announced early in development late last year, and the project has now been scrapped with resources for it now moving to other projects. After its cancellation was announced, some images of what appears to be the same Marvel MMO have surfaced online from one of the game’s designers.

More specifically, designer Ramiro Galan, who has worked on a number of AAA video games in the past, shared a look at some of the “styles and screens” of the canceled Marvel MMO. “The focus was on rich, vibrant colors with stylistic hues that pay tribute to Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse,” Galan shared on Instagram. “All the designs, 3D materials, lighting and post-processing, were done by me.”

You can check out photos from the now dead Marvel MMO, straight from Instagram Galan, embedded below for yourself:

As Galan notes, the inspiration obtained from Spider-Man inside the spider world Somewhat evident in the images from what appears to be a video game character creation with an emphasis on comic book-like cartoons. It’s unclear if the mechanics of all of this is definitive or if this is some kind of concept exploration, but it appears that players were able to choose one of several factions to join them, the X-Men, Avengers, SHIELD, or the Fantastic Four when creating a character. It looks like players will also be able to choose a superpower, a name, and more.

EG7 announced today that it will stop developing the Marvel Project at Daybreak Games. A press release announced the cancellation of the Marvel MMO advertiser. “Based on a reassessment of the development risk profile, investment volume, and long-term portfolio strategy of the Group, the Board of Directors decided to change development priorities and reallocate resources within the Group to focus on alternative long-term projects.”
